I made an appointment with David Cotes who assured me that his coworker Aiden was proficient in the technique of supine thoracic thrust. I made it clear that this technique was what I wanted after much experience with many osteopaths. David agreed with me on the phone. When I met with Aiden we talked for at least 15 minutes about my history and I made it clear that I didn't like being adjusted in my thoracic from behind and that the supine thoracic thrust where I lay on my back was my preferred method of being adjusted. After Aiden finished massaging my back while I was laying face down, to my surprise he pushed down on my thoracic and made an adjustment from behind! He then made some adjustments to my lower back and lastly rolled me over to do a supine thoracic thrust which was not successful as there was no movement. I have talked and visited many osteopaths in my 54 years and I have learned many things about my own body and in general about bodies. 1. the adjustment from behind that Aiden did is not as accurate in targeting individual vertebrae as the supine thoracic thrust if done proficiently. 2. After doing Aidens adjustment from behind it is unlikely that a supine thoracic thrust will be successful. 3. Aidens adjustment is better done on a young football player body type than on a 54 year old body like mine even though I am fit. When I left that clinic I didnt feel good. I got into my car and screamed and then cried. This was a very surprising reaction for me and one I have never experienced before and don't wish to experience again. I didnt feel good after 1 week. Aiden seems like a nice quy. Whether it was ego or lack of experience or something else I don't know, but he didn't listen to me and I didn't feel that he had that inate ability with the spine that almost can't be learnt. One week later I took the 2 hour drive to Highett, something I wished I had done a week ago and I visited someone who is the best osteopath I have ever seen. He has that inate ability, as well as a great energy. His ability is quite amazing. As soon as he starts massaging yout spine you can tell that he knows what he is doing. His adjustments are accurate and specifically target the vertebrae he wants to adjust. Amazing. I notice from reviews on google and on whitecoat on the internet that I am not alone. His name is Richard Cooke. His practise is Highett Sports and Spinal. One visit and I was pain free and back to normal. If you live around torquay and you need help with your back my recommendation is to make that 2 hour drive and see Richard.
